State celebrates Reading DayLunes, 12 de Julio de 2010VILLAHERMOSA – Tabasco took part in the national Reading Day Friday in celebration of the 92nd birthday of the Nayaritan poet Alí Chumacero.The national event was sponsored by the State Council for Culture and the Arts of Nayarit. In Tabasco, many local writers, editors and journalists, including Francisco Magaña, Héctor de Paz, Gerardo Grajeda, Vicente Gómez Montero, Erwin Macario, Gerardo Rivera and Erik Guerrero, got together to read some of the most representative works of Chumacero.Chumacero, a Mexican poet and editor, was born in Acaponeta, Nayarit, on July 9, 1918. He went to high-school in Guadalajara, and moved to Mexico City as a young man, where he later founded the Tierra Nueva journal in 1940.In his biographers’ words, Chumacero “is the author of a brief and dazzling work composed of characters whose stories are crystallized in profound metaphors representing a fierce and sweet period, and sordid places where life flourishes.”Chumacero is considered one of the best writers to have traced the heritage of contemporary Mexican poets. He became a member of the Mexican Language Academy in 1964.Friday’s event in Tabasco was organized by the State Institute for Culture (IEC) in coordination with the State Council for Culture and the Arts of Nayarit.– THE NEWS
